    Hi, difficult to say if is real or self made.

    The bumpers look like handmade prototype like Golf Mk2 US-style. But the body of Polo Mk1+2 never was made to fulfill us the US laws for crash tests Can you see if the front and rear panels are modified or improved in comparison to european cars?

    please can you show more pictures from the injection/Carburator? Does the car have a catalytic converter? Or other specific datails you could show?

    Do you have technical data?

    It sounds a bit funny maybe, but after the success of the Yugo45 in USA there was no more chance to offer the Polo because it would have been much more expensive, but with the same old fashioned technology. The Yugo based in FIAT 127/128 from 1972-82 and the Polo Mk2 is nearly identical to Mk1, more or less a big facelift.

    Hey, the car was delivered to Volkswagen AG, Research and Development Department, so I'm pretty sure it is indeed a real prototype.


    The bumpers are both indeed custom made, a much harder plastic then standard bumpers, the grill is also "handmade".

    The front panel has been modified, but only to fit the different grill and headlights, not for safety reasons I think.


    I will check if I have more pictures of the engine bay. The car does have a catalytic converter.

    The 1.1 engine in the certificate with 50hp was the normal for Europe, code HB.

    Would be interesting if it is still a 1.1 or totally different.

    The first Polo engine fulfilling US regulations was the NZ, a 1.3 with 55hp and converter. Produced since 1985. It was the first one with hydraulic tappets

    The HJ engine is a carburator engine like HH with emission reduction added to the Solex PIC(T)-6. This system looks totally different, a bit like a 1BE-carburator which was never produced.

    The airbox looks like the prototype of GK engine.


    I don't know a person who can help. people from engineering team died years ago and did not save documents of prototypes.

    It was very difficult to find info about Oeko Polo ten years ago.
